Sonoma County Fire Rebuild – Custom Modular Home
20+ Years Experience

Project Overview
Following the devastating 2017 Sonoma County fires, our client needed to rebuild their family home quickly and without prior experience in homebuilding. Cutting Edge Homes stepped in to design, deliver, and install a high-quality modular home that met strict timelines, exceeded California energy standards, and provided lasting value. The project faced complex site and delivery challenges but was successfully completed, leaving the clients with a home they truly love.
A family rebuilding their home after losing it in the 2017 Sonoma / Tubbs fires.

Challenges
Urgent need to rebuild after total loss of previous home.
Steep site with no shade and extreme heat conditions.
Narrow, winding road access — last half-mile nearly single-lane.
Delivery required splitting 62’ long A/B modules into four 35’ sections.
Numerous low-hanging branches along Route 12 for approximately three miles.
Required an in-the-road handover from highway transporters to a specialized equipment operator for final delivery.
Crane setup on hillside with a hairpin driveway turn and challenging pick radius.

Our Solution
Planned and executed a specialized delivery strategy, splitting the home modules into smaller sections for safe transport.
Coordinated closely with the California Highway Patrol for safe and efficient movement through the narrow, branch-covered route.
Partnered with an expert special equipment operator for the last half-mile delivery.
Managed crane setup on challenging terrain, ensuring precise placement despite steep slopes and tight turning radius.
Designed and built the home to exceed California Title 24 energy requirements, enabling eligibility for multiple energy rebates.
Outcome
Home delivered and assembled successfully despite extreme logistical challenges.
Energy performance exceeded California Title 24 standards by a wide margin.
Client qualified for several cash rebates for solar and energy efficiency.
High-quality construction and finishes that met the client’s expectations for comfort, durability, and efficiency.
Built-in equity for the client’s future real estate plans.
A happy homeowner who continues to enjoy their new home and community.

Matt Wolfe
“My family and I lost our home in Sonoma County in the 2017 fires. We were suddenly forced to build a new home in a short time period with no experience. The Cutting Edge team quickly made us feel at ease with our decision. Being new to the housebuilding market we had two huge concerns, quality and trust. We never had any issues with availability or return calls. The team made every deadline, always staying right at the budget. The process was explained completely and thoroughly, with no surprises.
The quality of our house is amazing. Energy efficiency is really big for us. We are working with an energy consulting group to qualify for a few rebates for solar power. The energy calculations on our house were 20% above energy standards, we qualified without having to make any upgrades with a standard CEM house.
The owner of CEH made multiple trips to our property and kept our kids up to date with photos of the house being built.
We love our new home!”
